Nomaders Research

How many remote jobs actually let you work from anywhere?

Findings as of 9 October 2026 (UTC). By the Nomaders team, produced automatically from our job data; no individual has reviewed this edition. Methodology version flex-v2.

Short answer

Very few. Of the 26,130 open jobs tracked by Nomaders, 194 (0.7%) have adverts that say in writing you can live in any country. Counting only jobs with no office attendance (19,966), the share is 1.0%. Most remote adverts still tie you to one country or a named region.

Where the jobs sit

Each job is in exactly one group. Denominator: all 26,130 open, de-duplicated jobs, hybrid included.

Only job categories with at least 100 open jobs are compared, so a handful of adverts cannot produce a misleading percentage.

Correction, 9 October 2026

Two examples shown earlier (Interdependence, Organic Social Manager; Camunda, Account Executive) were reclassified as "location not stated" after a recheck found their adverts did not say any country is accepted. Examples now appear only when the quoted advert sentence itself says anywhere, any country or worldwide. No daily snapshot had been saved at the time, so the earlier headline count cannot be reconstructed; the figures above are today's.

What “work from anywhere” wording looks like

Recent examples, quoted from the employer's advert. These are open at the snapshot date and may since have closed.

What this means if you are applying

“Remote” in a job title is not permission to live anywhere. Roughly 0.7% of the jobs we track say so explicitly. If you plan to move abroad or travel while working, read the location wording in the advert and ask the employer before you apply. Even a work-from-anywhere advert does not settle tax, contracts or visas, which depend on the employer's payroll arrangements and the country you live in.

Methodology and limitations

  • Sample: open jobs tracked by Nomaders at the snapshot time, read from 1,312 employer careers feeds covering 1,311 employers. This is not the whole job market.
  • Included: open jobs with a full advert (at least 400 characters) that are not hidden for a broken apply route. Duplicate postings that point to another listing are counted once.
  • “Work from anywhere” is only assigned when the employer's own advert says applicants can be based in any country. A missing country restriction is not treated as worldwide; such jobs are “Undisclosed”.
  • All figures come from one database query run at one moment, so the groups add up to the total. 2,679 of the jobs were first seen in the last 7 days; first-seen is when we discovered the advert, not when it was posted.
  • Adding new employer feeds changes the sample. Changes between dates are not hiring trends unless coverage is comparable.
  • Archived daily snapshots: 19, from 2026-10-09. Comparisons over time will be published once a full comparable month exists.
