About the role

At Petfolk, we’re reshaping veterinary care by blending high-quality medicine with a welcoming, connected experience for pets, their families, and the professionals who care for them.

The Role

The HR Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day execution and administration of core human resources processes across the employee lifecycle, with a strong focus on compliance, accuracy, and operational consistency. This role applies working knowledge of employment practices and internal policies to support onboarding, leave administration, HRIS management, and other HR-related projects. The HR Generalist exercises sound judgment within established guidelines, responds to HR requests through the HR ticketing system, partners closely with HR Business Partners and HR leadership, and escalates complex or sensitive matters as appropriate.

What You'll Do

Leave Management: Administer FMLA and other leave of absence (LOA) requests, including reviewing documentation, tracking eligibility and timelines, and ensuring accurate communication and recordkeeping.

HRIS & Data Integrity: Maintain and audit HRIS employee records, including job changes, compensation updates, terminations, and routine data integrity reviews.

Workers' Compensation: Support workers' compensation administration by providing administrative support on claims, maintaining documentation, and tracking outcomes.

Unemployment & Post-Employment Claims: Manage administrative aspects of unemployment and other post-employment claims, including preparing responses to state agencies and maintaining required records.

Compliance Reporting: Prepare and review compliance-related reports, audits, and documentation to support federal, state, and local employment requirements.

Employee & Manager Support: Respond to employee and manager questions related to HR policies, processes, and systems; escalate issues that require higher-level review or interpretation to Human Resources Business Partners.

Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with HR leadership and cross-functional teams to support consistent application of HR practices and work on various HR projects and initiatives.

Who You Are

HR Foundation: 3+ years of progressive human resources experience, ideally in a generalist or HR operations role, with solid working knowledge of HR practices and employment compliance.

Leave & Claims Experience: Hands-on background administering leaves of absence, workers' compensation, and unemployment claims, along with other employment-related processes.

HRIS Proficiency: Comfortable maintaining employee data and processing employment changes within an HRIS platform — Rippling experience is a plus.

Reporting & Compliance: A track record preparing HR reports, reviewing data for accuracy, and supporting compliance audits and regulatory reporting.

Discretion & Judgment: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to handle confidential information and apply policies consistently and with sound judgment.

Organization: Solid time management skills and the ability to juggle competing deadlines without losing track of details.

Communication: Clear, professional written and verbal communication, with good instincts for when to handle something directly versus escalate.

Collaboration: Ability to work independently while staying aligned with HR leadership and cross-functional business partners.

Tools: Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Google Office Suite or similar tools.

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Compliance Knowledge: Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws; multi-state workforce experience is a plus.
