Integration partnerships are a key part of our strategy to ensure that restaurants of all sizes can retain the parts of their tech stack outside of the Toast platform. Who We Are

Supporting customers software partners is a key part of international expansion strategy, and the advent of AI powered coding tools provided the opportunity to significantly reduce the development effort required to integrate with a partner. We are looking for a principal engineer to lead the development of this new way of integrating partners, while also providing additional technical leadership across our International expansion efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to develop new AI powered development systems that will provide direct impact for our customers.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.

Lead fellow developers, product managers, designers, and user researchers to build a strong tech infrastructure that enables scalably integration of key customer software partners.

Architect, create and maintain an AI harness for the rapid integration and maintenance of partners with Toast’s systems

Define and drive technical strategy for problems that affect our International expansion efforts

Mentor developers across multiple teams through code-pairing and detailed code, architecture, and project reviews

Champion best practices for development, deployment and quality life cycles

Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.

Document solution design, write & review code, test and rollout solutions to production, capturing & actioning customer feedback to iteratively enhance customer experience

Collaborate with UX, Product Management, QA and partner engineering teams to build best-in-class solutions in a complex and fast-moving environment

Our Tech Stack

Backend: Java and Kotlin-based backend services.

Frontend: React SPAs leveraging Tailwind, GraphQL, and Storybook.

Mobile/Hardware: Android app built in Java & Kotlin running in the restaurant.

Persistence/Databases: PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.

Messaging & Integration: Apache Pulsar, Apache Camel, and RabbitMQ for message-based integrations.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating highly scalable, mission-critical distributed systems and SaaS products (ideally AWS-hosted).
