About Snorkel
Snorkel AI is the frontier AI data lab, helping teams build the data and environments behind high-performing frontier and agentic AI. We combine technology with research-driven AI data development to create datasets, benchmarks, evals, and custom solutions for real-world AI systems. Founded out of the Stanford AI Lab in 2019, Snorkel works with leading AI labs and enterprises to move from better data to better outcomes. Excited to help us redefine how AI is built? Apply to be the newest Snorkeler!
About the Role
This team brings our DaaS (Data-as-a-Service) platform to government and regulated enterprise customers. You’ll lead the engineering team that takes the services behind DaaS and makes them run securely in regulated, high-assurance infrastructure, without forking the product. The goal is to keep the same capabilities we use today for generating data, evals, and benchmarks, now built to meet the security, auditability, and compliance demands of regulated data and the subject-matter experts who work with it.
This is a zero-to-one role. You’ll start by understanding the technical requirements of our regulated customers in depth. Then you’ll work with your team and our platform team to make the architecture changes, move services, and deploy into regulated environments end to end. Your team won’t be building data. You’ll build the infrastructure and deployment foundation that makes these environments possible, and you’ll partner closely with our Applied AI team, who work directly with customers to develop data and evals, so they can deploy and deliver inside them.
You’ll make autonomous technical, execution, and people decisions, and you’ll know the systems well enough to challenge designs and propose better ones alongside your technical leadership team.
Main Responsibilities
Lead a team of engineers through a zero-to-one build: define the technical requirements of regulated customers, make the architecture changes needed, and deploy and operate our services in regulated environments end to end
Partner with the platform team to decide where we adapt for regulated infrastructure and where we stay identical to our commercial platform, so one product keeps moving forward across every environment
Build repeatable environment provisioning: infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD that promote releases from our commercial environments into regulated ones, with security scanning and change control built into the workflow
Partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Applied AI to turn requirements (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, and customer-specific) into engineering work, with design decisions documented and audit-ready by default
Own operational outcomes for regulated environments: continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and the evidence trail behind them
Work through the gaps between commercial and regulated infrastructure, and design alternatives where services or capabilities differ
Drive hiring in hypergrowth: build a strong bench and keep the bar high as the team scales
Coach and develop engineers and tech leads into owners who see problems beyond their own projects
Set clear priorities, plans, and delivery commitments, and rebalance quickly as company needs shift
Establish engineering standards for design reviews, testing, observability, and root cause analysis
What We're Looking For
6+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong hands-on technical depth
2+ years in an engineering management role, leading a team of engineers
2+ years experience hands-on experience deploying into government or other regulated cloud environments with isolated, air-gapped, or otherwise restricted networks
Experience designing, building, and operating scaled systems in production in the cloud, including infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and containerized services
Deep technical fluency: you can go deep in architecture and design reviews and propose meaningful changes, not just manage from a distance
Experience with security-sensitive or regulated environment compliance (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, SOC 2, HIPAA, or similar). You don’t need to be a compliance expert, but you value rigorous, documented, auditable engineering
