The Applied AI team sits at the center of this ecosystem. We design and deploy intelligent systems that drive real-time tutor–learner matchmaking across millions of sessions worldwide. Over time, we've evolved from traditional machine learning approaches into a modern AI-native marketplace — leveraging deep learning, advanced ranking and re-ranking architectures, and proprietary multimodal data including audio, video, and transcripts to deliver smarter recommendations and measurable learning outcomes.
As an Applied AI Scientist, you’ll join the AI Marketplace team. We build and operate the intelligence layer that ensures the marketplace is not only high-performing, but also safe and trustworthy — from neural ranking models in PyTorch to large-scale experimentation infrastructure and full-spectrum Trust & Safety systems, including fraud prevention, abuse detection, and marketplace integrity.
Today the team is made up primarily of senior scientists focused on advancing model architecture and large-scale AI systems. You will have ownership of high-impact, well-scoped work — such as feature engineering, data pipelines, offline evaluation tooling, and experiment analysis — while receiving close mentorship from experienced ICs.
Please note: This role is open to candidates based in Ukraine. You can work from our Kyiv hub or remotely from anywhere in Ukraine.
What you'll be doing:
Building ML solutions that enable a remarkable user experience in the Preply marketplace.
Contributing to data pipelines that power the team’s ranking and matching models, with support from senior engineers.
Building and improving offline evaluation tooling and data quality checks.
Analyzing experiment results to help the team understand model performance and guide future iterations.
Working on components of larger AI projects with senior teammates.
What you need to succeed:
1.5+ years of hands-on commercial experience in data science or machine learning.
Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals, including model training, evaluation, experimentation, and common modeling trade-offs.
Experience building, training, fine-tuning, or evaluating ML models in a production or commercial environment.
Strong Python skills and hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow and Git/GitHub.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and using them effectively while maintaining ownership of the output.
English proficiency at B2 level or above.
Hands-on experience with deep learning and/or ranking and recommendation systems would be a big plus.
