About the role
Meet Benevity
Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!
About the Role
Benevity is looking for a Senior DevOps Developer to own and operate the cloud infrastructure and developer platforms that our product teams build on every day. In this hands-on engineering role, you will write Terraform, build pipelines, tune systems, and participate in shared on-call responsibilities. Operating on a collaborative platform model rather than a ticket queue, you will provide the frameworks, templates, and guardrails that enable product teams to independently and securely manage their delivery pipelines. You will partner closely with Staff engineers to turn architectural direction into reliable, well-documented infrastructure while mentoring peers to raise the bar on automation and operational discipline. Your success will be measured by the adoption, velocity, and seamless, inclusive developer experience you help create.
What you’ll do:
Build and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP using Terraform, contributing to reusable IaC libraries instead of one-off configurations
Create and treat shared CI/CD building blocks as a self-service product, gathering engineer feedback to improve build times, reliability, and rollback safety across teams
Automate operational toil and cut repetitive work using code and AI-driven workflows for writing IaC, triaging alerts, and drafting runbooks
Instrument services for observability by building dashboards, meaningful alerts, and SLIs, while participating in an inclusive on-call rotation and leading blameless post-mortems
Operate and tune containerized services, including resource management and scaling, and help shape our upcoming transition to Kubernetes
Manage the infrastructure, provisioning, and backups for managed databases (MySQL, MSSQL, Postgres) to support our product teams safely
Embed cloud-native security, automated compliance checks, and least-privilege IAM into the platform so teams inherit them by default
Package zero-downtime deployment patterns as reliable building blocks and ensure systems have documented, rehearsed disaster recovery paths
Review infrastructure code, improve internal documentation, and provide supportive mentorship to intermediate engineers to raise the team's standards
What you’ll bring:
A proven track record in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering supporting production SaaS at a meaningful scale
Strong hands-on AWS experience across compute, networking, and IAM, utilizing Well-Architected principles alongside solid Terraform skills
Deep familiarity with CI/CD platforms like GitHub Actions or Jenkins, specifically building reusable workflows, templates, and shared libraries
Practical programming ability in Python or similar languages for automation, maintaining the habits of a developer with version control and code review
A collaborative platform mindset focused on developer experience, gathering feedback, and driving tool adoption rather than acting as a gatekeeper
Experience running containerized production workloads, tuning scaling behavior, and a working knowledge of managed database services
Proficiency with observability tooling to define useful SLIs and alerts, coupled with real incident response and post-mortem experience
Demonstrated use of prompt engineering and AI agents to thoughtfully automate engineering and operational tasks
Clear, inclusive communication skills with bonus points for experience in Kubernetes migrations, GCP, FinOps, or regulated environments
